M.F.K. Fisher called it “Sister Age.”
Samuel Johnson called it the “time to be in earnest.”
Cicero called it “the crown of life, our play’s last act.”
Coming of age is a time of both new opportunities and new challenges. We have more time to do the things we most enjoy, but health, transportation, financial, or housing issues might make it harder to do them easily. As we plan ahead, we have some practical questions. What housing options might make “aging in place” easier? What community services or collectives might help? If I decide to move, how can I make the transition as smooth as possible? What if I, or a loved one, needs a more protected environment?

To get some answers, come to our February Community Forum: “Making Life Work for Seniors.”

Starting the morning will be the Senior Synergy Panel, a collaboration of Rogue Valley professionals dedicated to promoting quality living for adults 55 and beyond:
Judy Miller, Seniors Real Estate Specialist
Jacqueline Walston, Senior Mover with ODOT
Marya Kain, Dementia Care Education and Behavior Coach
Judi Robinson, Mortgage Loan Specialist including reverse mortgages
Nanci Grabner, Marketing Director, Pioneer Village
Ellen Waldman, Professional Geriatric Care Manager
Sharon Johnson, Associate Professor, Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center, OSU and Medford Mail Tribune columnist, will moderate.

Following the panel, Melanie Mindlin, of Ashland Co-Housing will talk about the new Senior Co-Housing group in Ashland, and Barbara Jarvis of the new Ashland At Home project will introduce the “Village” concept and tell us about what is happening with the local movement.

There will be time for questions and a list of ideas for further reading.

Mark your calendars and invite your family and friends.
